Zinc "White Bronze" Replacement

When we were entrusted with this project, the zinc “white bronze” finial was broken and missing a major piece that could not be located. We meticulously machined a replacement finial for a historic marker in Chelsea Garden Cemetery, carefully modeling the top to ensure a precise and compatible fit. The work was carried out in accordance with accepted conservation principles, prioritizing the preservation of the monument’s historic fabric and original design intent. From a conservation standpoint, it was important to fabricate the replacement in the original metal rather than introduce substitute materials or modern coatings. After evaluating the options, we determined that using zinc was the most historically appropriate and reversible solution, ensuring the marker is preserved as it was intended while maintaining its material authenticity.
